In addition to starring in it, Wilson also works as a director of the terrifying adventure. The original film explored the Lambert family, as Dalton (Simpkins) sustains an injury that makes him the target of a supernatural threat. When Elise Rainier (Lyn Shay) tries to help, we learn how Dalton’s father (Wilson) was similarly targeted by a supernatural being in his childhood. The new film is set to explore how Lamberts deals with the events of 10 years ago as Dalton heads off to college.

Earlier this year, Wilson shared his enthusiasm for not only returning to the franchise as an actor, but also reviving the narrative as a director.
“It’s something I feel very passionate about, and not a day has passed since they brought up the idea that I wasn’t involved in that much. There’s been a lot of work done by Scott Tims, the writer and myself,” Wilson explained to splash screen. “And Lee and Annell have helped a lot, and of course Blumhouse is a great partner. I’ve done a bunch of things with them, so I couldn’t be happier to have my first experience with a very comfortable and helpful group of people who, for some reason, trust me. So, we’ll see.”
